KUCHING: Barisan Nasional deputy chairman Tan Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to meet state BN leaders tomorrow to discuss preparations for the Sarawak election.
The state BN leaders are also finalising their list of prospective candidates.
Sources said Muhyiddin would go through the list before submitting it to BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
On their part, the state BN leaders will hand over the list of their nominees to state BN chairman Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.When contacted yesterday, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Datuk Seri Dr James Masing, Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) president Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party president Datuk Seri William Mawan Ikom said they would soon submit their lists to Taib.
Dr Chan said he was still going through the list.
Mawan said: "I can't tell you yet if there are any changes to the existing list. Just wait and see."
Taib, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president, had said there would be major changes to his party's candidate list.
He said 12 incumbents would be dropped and replaced by younger and winnable candidates. A number of young professionals have also been identified as the new faces for PBB.
They are Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin lecturer Mohammad Hailmi Sajili, Hospital Serdang cardiologist Dr Annuar Rapee, Kedup PBB division information chief Bernard Phillip, Kedup PBB deputy chairman Martin Ben, civil servant Alex Ganyan and educationist Joseph Tiam.
Other possible new faces are Mukah Resident Saudi Narani, Sacofa Sdn Bhd managing director Abang Jemat Abang Bujang, PBB Youth chief Telang Usan, Dennis Ngau, former political secretary to the chief minister Robertson Mawa and two political secretaries to the chief minister, Tengku Geruna and Robert Laing Anyie.
The others include state mufti Kipli Yassin, teacher and music composer Patrik Khamis, Demak Jaya PBB deputy chairman Dr Hazlan Hipnin and Igan member of parliament Wahab Dolah.
Among the incumbents who have announced their intention not to re-contest are Datuk Hamden Ahmad (Belawai), Datuk Bolhassan Di (Beting Maro), Datuk Wan Abdul Wahab Wan Sanusi (Sadong Jaya), Datuk Dr Abang Abdul Rauf Abang Zen (Demak Laut), Datuk Ambrose Belikau Enturan (Katibas) and Dr Wahbi Junaidi (Saribas).
Masing had also been reported as saying that PRS would name a new candidate for Pelagus after its incumbent, Larry Sng, was sacked from the party.
