UniMAP - News

25 July, 2011 KANGAR -- Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) is recently given a 4-star rating in the ‘focus university’ category in the ‘Malaysian Research Assessment’ (MyRA) evaluation. MyRA is under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education.

UniMAP’s position in this 2008-2010 period puts it at the overall number 6 amongst all higher learning institutions in Malaysia. A 4-star rating means UniMAP is on the same position as one local research university, namely Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, UTM.

UniMAP Vice-Chancellor Brig. Jen. Dato’ Prof. Dr. Kamarudin Hussin said the rating shows an improvement compared to the 2007-2009 period when UniMAP was given a 3-star rating.

There are 5 research universities in Malaysia, 4 of which are given 5-star rating.
“It is our hope that UniMAP will be considered as a research university so that we can improve our research performance in the coming years,” said the Vice-Chancellor during UniMAP’s 2011 Media Night at Putra Palace Hotel recently. The ‘back-to-school’ themed function saw the attendance of almost 100 Perlis media staff.

Prof. Dr. Kamarudin hoped that the media would continue to report on UniMAP’s outstanding research performance, which have been seen to contribute much to the local community.
