The CT200h is the smallest Lexus, offering hybrid technology in the premium compact segment for the first time. Lexus aims to attract younger buyers with this new model, hence a greater need for credible sportiness.
A five-door hatchback design was adopted because of the preference of customers in Europe, a major potential market for the CT200h.The front has a distinctive Lexus look, with twin LED low beam lamps (CT200h Luxury only) and integral, arrowhead-shaped daytime running lamps -- a signature of recent Lexus models.
Like the Toyota Prius, the hybrid drive system in the CT200h consists of a four-cylinder petrol engine, electric motor, generator, high-performance 168-cell battery, power control unit and power-split device.
In combination with the output provided by the electric motor, the maximum power available can be boosted to 134bhp. The electric motor has a maximum torque of 207Nm.
Mutiara Motorsports director Mahathir Ahmad said the company would offer the CT200h and CT200h Luxury models at RM173,411 and RM202,710, respectively, with a three-year or 100,000km warranty.
"The public response has been encouraging as the two models have good design, fuel-efficiency and environment-friendly characteristics.
"The CT200h and CT200h Luxury can operate via battery power. The battery need not be charged as it will be done automatically when the car is in motion," he said.
Mahathir said the company had a comprehensive service centre for the models in Plentong.
