The University of Miami has once again made the list of the “100 Best Places to Work in IT,” which is compiled by IDG’s Computerworld, a leading national publication devoted to information technology.
UM is ranked No. 50 on the list, making it one of only two academic institutions to crack the top 50. The University also is ranked No. 3 in the category of diversity.
“Our department is excited to be named one of the Best Places to Work in IT,” said Tim Ramsay, associate vice president for Information Technology. “We strive to seek out and hire the most talented individuals in the profession.”
Computerworld has published its “Best Places to Work in IT” feature since 1994, ranking the top 100 work environments for technology professionals based on a comprehensive questionnaire on company offerings such as benefits, diversity, career development, training, and retention.
In its description of UM, Computerworld notes that the University’s IT workers are engaged in several global initiatives, from supporting researchers from the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science who monitored the environmental conditions in the Gulf following last year’s Deepwater Horizon oil spill to continuing “to offer telecommunications support to university medical school personnel who are providing health care to the people of earthquake-ravaged Haiti.”
Computerworld also noted how University of Miami IT employees were onsite during the entire weekend of last year’s Clinton Global Initiative University conference and how they set up the voice and data infrastructure for the Global Business Forum, held last January.
The complete Best Places to Work in IT list is published in the special June 20 issue of Computerworld and online at Computerworld.com.
